Instead, I tried my hand at a little letter carving, since the boat will need a name.
The boat will be called Lady Caroline.
This is a first try, and a little rough around the edges, but I think it turned out pretty good for a first try.
Since I'm starting out on building a small sailing boat, I thought it might be useful for others to learn from my experience. This will be a log of the building project, and any problems and solutions along the way.

Nice job Dave!
It's difficult to get a sense of scale from the photo - how tall are the letters? Also what tools did you use?
About 2.5 inches tall.
I used flexcut chisels. See http://www.flexcut.com/
A skew, ans some various gouges to get the corners.
And a small plane old Marples chisel for the straight bits.
The carving looks really good Dave. I see that you've accomplished much over the summer... good work too.
