I tried a little carving...

Since it's dark in the evenings, there's not much work done on the boat these days.

Instead, I tried my hand at a little letter carving, since the boat will need a name.

The boat will be called Lady Caroline.

This is a first try, and a little rough around the edges, but I think it turned out pretty good for a first try.

  1. Nice job Dave!

It's difficult to get a sense of scale from the photo - how tall are the letters? Also what tools did you use?

  2. About 2.5 inches tall.

I used flexcut chisels. See http://www.flexcut.com/

A skew, ans some various gouges to get the corners.

And a small plane old Marples chisel for the straight bits.
